LIFE AT WHM

The Montessori Method focuses on The Child, The Teacher and the Favourable Environment. The Montessori approach is underpinned by the essential principle that learning is inseparable from development, so education centres on each child as a unique individual. The children of Wetherby House Montessori will become motivated and responsible for their own learning.

At Wetherby House Montessori we believe that every child deserves a healthy start in life. Getting the balance right in the early years can have a positive impact on a child’s long-term health and development. This is the time when food preferences are being formed and children are becoming more active in developing likes and dislikes.

FAMLY is our online learning journey system. Parents are able to log in and see what their child has been doing during the week. The system also gives parents access to a variety of information pertaining to child development, nursery curriculum, our events calendar and much, much more. All our nursery policies, procedures and menus are available to view on FAMLY.

We regard everyone who works at Wetherby House as one big family, thus strive to meet the strictest hiring and vetting procedures. This ensures the safest and most warm and welcoming environment for our children and parents alike.

“Opening Wetherby House Montessori has been the culmination of a life-long dream. My passion for childcare started in my teen years, when my own journey as an educator began. Over the years, my experience and understanding of children and early education has grown to allow me facilitate the very best for the children in my setting. I aim to continue my growth and learning as a practitioner and learn from the children every day!

Shamyka Douglas, Director

“I started my journey with Montessori after sending my daughter to her first Montessori nursery nearly 14 years ago. Having now been in a position of leadership for over 10 years, I find myself inspired and amazed by our children and staff nearly every day. I have been with Wetherby House Montessori since it opened and have loved our journey from start-up to where we are today. As Regional Manager, my aim is to lead and support high-quality practice in our nurseries so that we are providing consistently exceptional experiences to the children in our care. I work with a team of talented staff and together we implement a continuously improving curriculum to meet the needs of the children today and in the future.

Andrea Goodwin, Regional Manager

“I am a teacher at heart and love the challenge of working with others to improve and enhance what practices are in place. The children are at the core of my work and when drawing up new ways of doing things, I will always keep the child at the heart. Leading the Northwood branch, I understand the unique pressures our children are under and aim to support both the child and their family through their journey of education. The team and I are excited to work with your children and share our passion for learning! I am looking forward to the challenges and learning of my new position, wherein I will be working with the Managers of our other branches to support their leadership and management.
